SWORD OF FINAL VICTORY
Weapon—Cannot be concealed, deadly, intimidating, large, magical, rare, sharp
This prodigious, finely crafted, two-handed blade deals D8 MAGICAL (slashing) damage to opponents. On any killing blow (one that reduces the opponent to 0 HP or below) dealt with the sword, the wielder earns the opportunity to make an additional HARD STR roll as a bonus action to decapitate any corporeal opponent with a head. If the decapitation is successful, death is immediate and permanent. There is no chance for a successful decapitation against deities, extraplanar entities, or the undead. Except zombies. Because…zombies.
Notes:
- If you arm a bad guy with one of these swords, consider having the foe decapitate an NPC first (or more than one NPC first) just to give the players a taste of what the PCs are up against. The heads of a couple of trusted and well-loved NPCs cluttering the encounter area should set the tone for the battle…
- Likewise, if a PC has a Sword of Final Victory, a GM probably shouldn’t have lesser mooks stand their ground and get slaughtered after the first (couple of) decapitations(s); consider whether the magic of the sword compels a morale check to keep their formation from degenerating into a complete rout, or have them pull back out of melee range and fight a tactical retreat with missile attacks in the face of such awesome prowess, and make the wielder of the sword adapt to keep the challenge up.
