When this wide golden ring set with a small, square-cut tiger’s eye gemstone is removed from the wearer’s finger and placed flat on the surface of a barrier (e,g, wall, door) or solid object up to ten feet thick, the wearer can draw close an peer through the center of the ring as if it were a magical peephole with an appropriately narrow field of vision. The ring provides no light source, so if peering into a darkened space, the view through the ring will be obscured. Sound is also transmitted through the hole in the ring, just as if there were an actual peephole drilled through the barrier, so it can be useful for eavesdropping too. There is no evidence of the peephole on the other side of the barrier from which the ring is employed. The ring’s effect is purely magical; it transmits sight and sound in one direction only, and iit neither creates an actual breach in the surface nor allows for the transmission of matter (including air) through the “hole.” The ring’s magic does not allow spying through barriers made of mithril or lead.
