12/18 Caught in the Middle

GORRYTOWN NATURE PRESERVE
UNDERGROUND BUNKER CONTROL CENTER

With the main access locked, and the klaxon alarms finally silenced, the trio feel their ears pop as thin metal shielding slides in front of the ventilation shafts. MIKHAILA shoots a hole in one of them, opening it up, but leaving HEATHER nearly deaf from the ringing in her ears, and having a mini-breakdown about it all.

EDGAR hears scuttling of many fast small clawed feet through the ventilation ducts toward the one they’ve just shot open. Mikhaila gets the door open with a bit of Electrical know how. She and Edgar, lead a still distraught Heather out of the control room.

THE MILE LONG PEOPLE MOVER

The trio enter a pristine white tunnel with a single people mover of incredible length in the middle. It’s not turned on. With the Tumor Cats scurrying in chase behind them, and darkness ahead, they take a minute to strongarm open a power box and get the people mover track in motion. As they run along it, the lights turn on just ahead of them and turn off just behind them automatically. They can see the eyeshine of the Tumor Cats gaining.

They run and gun trying to keep the advancing Tumor Cats at bay. Up ahead, they see two groups of humanoid figures moving along the left and right passages beside the People Mover track. They are armed, and wearing Hazmat suits. Despite figuring out a weakness in the back of the Tumor Cat’s skulls, the evil critters have put a severe hurting on the trio, lucky rolls have kept them mostly dying, but not yet dead. Heather tries to stabilize Mikhaila, leaving Edgar to try not to die. While she’s doing that, she realizes the people in the Hazmat suits are shooting and killing the remaining Tumor Cats. They won’t communicate with her, just knock her out.

AN ENORMOUS UNDERGROUND SERVER ROOM

The party awakens, their belongings present except for weapons, but scattered all over the narrow passage among the servers. Mikhaila and Heather explore and find a demented old man in red pajamas, rocking in a chair while whistling the Fairview “Put on a Happy Face” song. He’s tearfully picking red ants off of himself. He’s not able to communicate much, but he’s grateful to Edgar and Heather for helping him get out of the ant problem.

Meanwhile, Mikhaila has heard a whoosh of door opening back in the passage where they had woke up. HEading back that way, she sees a trio of inbred looking men with the tops of their Hazmat suits tied around their waists, and various sawed off and jury-rigged firearms dangling over one arm. The only recognizable words they can say are "Red, Red, Red," but say it with great enthusiasm.
