GUILTY PLEASURE (Magic Sword #8)
Weapon—Deadly, fast, sharp

This stout-bladed, straight-sided gladius (short sword) lets the wielder add a CHA bonus to the D6 WEAPON (slashing) damage it deals on each attack. The blade length is curtailed to the point where it could be mistaken for a long dagger, but the weight and size of its meaty, spherical pommel facilitate (but do not mandate) the use a reverse “ice pick” grip in combat, normally an emergency alternative. Its hammered sheet metal scabbard is designed to be worn vertically on the strong side.

When the wielder drops an opponent (to 0 HP or below), the wielder must make a CHA save or spend the next turn in place, gloating over the fallen foe with a wild-eyed smile, neither making a move nor taking action; however, when this occurs, the wielder’s expression is so frighteningly deranged that all CLOSE sighted opponents must make a CHA save at the start of their next turn or stand frozen in momentary awe of the wielder.

On an attack roll of a natural 20 (critical hit) the wielder deals D6+D12+CHA points of damage to the target creature and then earns a bonus melee attack on any CLOSE secondary target, striking with the huge pommel for D6+CHA (bludgeoning) damage on a successful second strike. The first target creature cannot be struck again on this bonus attack, and if no other opponent is within range the critical hit’s usual extra damage is the only effect.
