Template Tuesday!

#1

The blame for this can be hung squarely on @waddinghambrett and @KaneDriscol, in case anyone want to know whose fault this is!

I have created some MAD LIB MAGIC ITEM TEMPLATES which will remain secret until tomorrow night. In the mean time, log your responses to the KEY (below) in a reply for posterity. Then, when I post the TEMPLATE sometime tomorrow night, fill in your blanks and share the finished products with the group!

Reply for serious, or for funsies, your choice—maybe make a reply for BOTH! Loosen up those creative brain muscles a bit and have some fun. Maybe get a usable idea or seed out of the exercise!

Here’s the KEY to fill out:

  2. Type of material

  3. Type of Container

  4. Something wet

  5. Type of terrain

@KaneDriscol’s MAD LIB MAGIC ITEMS:

The Suspicious Sharkskin Beaker of Space Oil: When buried in Glacial Ice Tunnel for D12 DAYS, the person who buried it may return at dusk and dig it up. The Beaker will now be filled with D10 Kathian Bonefish scales the color of Black Pearl that can be used as Rare Ingredients for spellcasting or potion making. They will be especially good for creating spells of Decaying, but beware! The potions made from these scales can be problematic for Hitchhikers!

A Summonable D4 Damage Ashen Longbow: It’s magically concealed in a Forever Bubble. When summoned, the weapon is unusually Miniscule and bears runes which allow the user to Chat 1 point of CON away from the next 3 Hillfolk it hits. The Chat CON effect lasts half a fortnight.

Customizing Plane of Deja Vu Right Knee Pendant: While worn on Right Knee where others can plainly see it, this burnt orange, gritty pendant grants the wearer access to a unstable spirit named The Miner of Money-Laundering, who will answer “Of Course” or nothing at all to one question per session. The threshold for a “Of Course” answer is 42% true.

These were fun to read through! Especially as my poor logic brain tries to parse the things so they make better sense.

And that part where the brain tries to force sense onto the nonsense is the sweet spot where our neatest ideas are just waiting to take root.

For example: I started off thinking “How the heck would you FOLLOW a STAT away?” And then gave my brain a chance to get literal about it. "allowed it to mean exactly what it said, even though it made no sense.
And it made a funny picture: “That Fishman will be very suspicious of you following him at first, but by the end, he’ll be none the wiser!”
And then I started to think about some creature or being who robs stat points simply by following along behind someone. Like maybe a “so ugly it’s cute” baby critter a party member saved. And the party member lets the ugly bugger stay around him not knowing why they are feeling less wise…

And that’s just the tip of the ice berg! You guys really set up some interesting connections to smash together! Silly Silly Gamers! What do yall see in these?

This is fabulous! Thanks for doing this @Lon. It was a hoot and very stimulating to the creative side of the brain.

Until next time.

I’m a fan of templates for ease and speed and, in this case, very surprising results.
