Stat an Umber Hulk Boss Fight in 10 minutes...Go!

There’s “Beetle Man” art in one of the packs, but no ICRPG-official stats in Core or anywhere else I could find.

So for funsies on a Sunday night of a long weekend (Memorial Day in America), why don’t we nerd out a bit and compare how we’d stat this beast if someone put a gun in our ribs and said, “Your Umber Hulk boss fight stats or your life!”

Here’s mine:

Beetle Bastard
Terrifying Tunneling Aberration

+4 STR, CON, DAMAGE
If attack does >10pts damage, destroy a piece of armor or weapon
d6 Metal Crushing Claws
[#] Rush <NEAR, Win Contested STR or d8 Mandible Choke and Gaze +d4 Rounds Confused (All Actions HARD)
[%] Tunnel <FAR, EASY d8 Mandible attack

Umber Commander

+4 STR, CON, Weapon effort x2
Hard roll to hit. 2 actions one move per turn

  1. Pincer Grab
    On a successful hit, the victim must make dex save vs grab. While grabbed with Pincers, the victim cannot use arms or hands for attacks

  2. Squeeeezze!!!
    Once the character is grabbed use STR to escape on victims turn, Umber Commander can start to squeeze with Pincers.
    Choose damage Equipment or Hurt Character
    Damage equipment has character lose a random piece of equipped loot
    Damage Character, auto-hit for weapon damage X2

  3. Summon Supplicants!
    _D2 regular Umber Hulks appear below PCs who must make a dex or intelligence check to not be pulled into the holes _

uses other senses than sight, immune to blindness, deafness or charm.
Movement equals near walk or tunneling. If escaping it is Near x3 can collapse the tunnel as part of a move action.

Regular Umber Hulks

1 action one move per turn

A common tactic is to tunnel below target and collapse tunnel as target falls in! :heart::heart: effort for a character to climb out of the collapsed tunnel.

Ya, this is a proper boss fight, PCs don’t get out unscathed…you choose to kill them or just destroy a bunch of gear!

With singular crowd control and hard to hit, it’s easy to scale from interesting fight to potential TPK if going all out on your party.

Boss breaks out under target, hits/grabs target, collapses tunnel. Next turn summon supplicants, and squeeze…move 20 feet under players…rinse and repeat.

It’s the goblin shoot bow, hide, shoot bow hide situation. Or the umberhulks just stay on the surface, and take one PCs gear for a ride and get killed.
