Hello Fellow Rabble Rousers:

I am looking for ideas for EZD6 class ideas for a Swords & Sandals Conan mod for Conan the Barbarian type game. Good class fits from the base game:

Yes Classes
Warrior
Brute
Rascal

Maybe Classes
Beastmaster with modifications
Skald with modifications
Conjurer with modifications

No Classes
Friar
Warden

I’d think that if you are allowing a modified Conjurer you can have a Friar modded to be a Cultist.

Also (though I don’t own it), there might be some good ideas in Wasted Worlds.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am excluding Friars b/c all men worship false gods and there are no miracles. Further all conjurors aka sorcerers must make deals with demons to gain their powers, I am considering making conjurors NPCs. I am looking for some different classes to fit an ancient world feel.

Below is my campaign ptich.

"Come gather ye by the fire and let me tell you of the time before time, when Lantea and Ur made war, before the great cataclysm and the deluge that cleansed the world of the wicked. Dip your bread and drink your wine as I chronicle the epics of Andeluvia’s greatest heroes, tell you of their mighty deeds, daring quests, their glorious victories and ignominious defeats.

The Andeluvian age was a time of chaos and fear, of dark city states and vast empires, when sorcerers made pacts with demons for forbidden knowledge, when all men worshipped false gods, where eldritch horrors and giants vexed mankind, and the wicked oppressed the righteous…"

Why not drop all of the classes and start fresh? Here are some ideas. Take what works. Dump what doesn’t. I wouldn’t have more than about 6 classes, but again, do what you want.

1. Barbarian

  • Role : A fierce warrior from a savage land, the Barbarian relies on brute strength and ferocity in battle. They excel at close combat, using heavy weapons and their raw power to crush enemies.
  • Abilities : Rage, Unarmored Defense, Brutal Criticals.

2. Gladiator

  • Role : Trained in the deadly arenas of the empire, the Gladiator is a master of combat, skilled in both offense and defense. They can fight with a variety of weapons and are adept at entertaining a crowd while they fight.
  • Abilities : Weapon Mastery, Crowd Control, Fighting Styles.

3. Scout

  • Role : A master of survival and stealth, the Scout is skilled in tracking, hunting, and navigating through the wilds. They can set traps, ambush enemies, and move silently through any terrain.
  • Abilities : Tracking, Stealth, Trap Setting.

4. Thief

  • Role : Agile and cunning, the Thief excels in stealth, lock-picking, and acrobatics. They can easily slip into places unseen, steal valuable items, and strike from the shadows.
  • Abilities : Sneak Attack, Pickpocketing, Acrobatics.

5. Warlord

  • Role : A battlefield commander, the Warlord is a leader who inspires and directs others in combat. They are skilled tacticians, capable of rallying troops and turning the tide of battle with their commands.
  • Abilities : Commanding Presence, Battle Strategy, Rallying Cry.

6. Assassin

  • Role : A master of silent killing, the Assassin specializes in eliminating targets quickly and efficiently. They are experts in poisons, disguises, and surprise attacks.
  • Abilities : Poison Use, Assassinate, Disguise.

7. Nomad

  • Role : A wanderer of the wastelands, the Nomad is adept at surviving in harsh environments. They are skilled riders, expert archers, and knowledgeable in desert or tundra survival.
  • Abilities : Mounted Combat, Survivalist, Archery.

8. Hunter

  • Role : A relentless tracker, the Hunter is skilled in finding and capturing or killing targets for a reward. They are resourceful, resilient, and often work alone.
  • Abilities : Tracking, Capture Techniques, Persistence.

9. Imperial Guard

  • Role : A disciplined and elite soldier, trained to serve and protect the ruling power of the empire. These warriors are known for their unwavering loyalty, strategic combat skills, and ability to maintain order on the battlefield.
  • Abilities : Combat Training, Shield Wall, Law Keeper.

Look to Barbarians of Lemuria for great inspiration:

This is fantastic! I’d recommend using this.

In regards to Conan stories, the sorcerers are very powerful and very much corrupted. No one messes with them and any use of actual magic is seen as profane and demonic.

If your players were to play some sort of magician, it could be petty magic at best.

Depending on the vibe you are going for, you might want to switch out the Karma System with the Stress System DM Scotty mentioned in the Discord:

  1. Stress Replaces Karma -Victims can adjust their D6 rolls by taking stress. -Each stress taken adjusts a roll by 1 number (so taking 1 stress changes a roll of a 4 into a 5). -Acquiring a 3rd stress token instantly inflicts a strike (with no Avoidance Roll), then lose all stress tokens. -Some items can remove stress, such as alcohol or drugs but be careful how much you use. -Stress cannot be used on a roll of 1, but the Flip of Fate can be used.

Flip of Fate, your chance for miraculous or dismal luck! -When things are going downhill, the Victim can flip this token to save their bacon. If it lands heads, they get miraculously saved or have incredibly amazing luck. But, if it lands tails, brace yourself for the worst outcome imaginable. I bet you’ve watched enough horror movies to know it won’t be ‘fine.’ -I suggest spinning the coin for some extra edge-of-your-seat anticipation!
