Getting descriptive with your actions

Had an idea to contribute here…

As a gm, you tell a player it is their turn and they say something along the lines of “well I guess I attack” and they toss a dice onto the table. Sometimes the player may not even state what weapon they are attacking with.

Some rpgs have “stunt dice” which basically give a player an advantage or edge when they are descriptive with with their actions. I suggest awarding players a simple +1 to an attempt or effort for being creative on their turn.

It adds so much to the game if a player says something like “I take up my spear and stare the orc down. I think of the villiage I saw them burn to the ground, and the innocents they cut down. I stagger forward and and attempt to drive it into his heart”.

It isn’t really game breaking and you may be surprised to see your players really strive to be more descriptive and creative for a small mechanical edge. If a player says something awesome and highly descriptive every turn, give them a small bonus every turn and watch the other players catch on.

Happy gaming and I hope your combats are descriptive and action packed!
