DM Resources: D100 tables

#1

Hey all! What d100 table would be most useful to you as a DM, but you haven’t been able to find? Which random tables do you already use and wish to share?

You might be aware of it but there is a great subreddit for this: https://www.reddit.com/r/d100/

As for what I want; travel tables of random sights/sounds/monuments/locations for different environments. Whenever my players are doing some travel I struggle to describe the journey. It would be nice to have something to roll on to tell them what kinds of things they spot. This is not random encounters though. For example if they were traveling through a forest I could roll on the table and get results like “A grove of alder trees” or “The stone walls of a long abandoned farm”.

If they want to interact with it, fine. But it is just set dressing mainly.

The tables on that subreddit get compiled into this nifty wesbite: http://dndspeak.com/

I’m lacking good tables for mundane or natural things. Like: plants, dishes, items a merchant sells, clothing, etc.

The trick with random tables is that they shouldn’t just list things, the entries should also be interesting to be useful. Looking at the magic sword name table, in one of the links, gives a good illustration of this: its first entry is Orcbane. This is not a terrible or even particularly cheesy name (like 3 - Bisectinator). But it is the sort of low-effort, generic name that one uses a table in hope of avoiding.

So, at least for me, I’m lacking tables that don’t just list common ideas but adds something to them.

It doesn’t take much. Like: I could roll for “1 - Narrow leather boots of noticeably different height”, but never for “1 - Shoes”
